3D Animation Course in Haldwani — 1-Year Program Inside a Working Studio
Monal Academy · Updated Invalid Date

If you want to learn 3D animation in Haldwani without moving to Delhi or Pune, this is the one program where you study on the floor of a studio that ships shows. Monal Academy's 3D Animation program is one year, full-time, taught by the animators who work on Monal Digital's productions, at Karan Tower on Gas Godam Road. No prior experience is assumed.

Who this course is for
- You finished 12th (any stream) or a degree and want a career that doesn't run through a government exam.
- You already spend time with Blender, or you draw, or you just re-watch animated films to work out how the movement was done.
- You're working in Haldwani, Rudrapur, or Nainital and want a real skill without relocating.
- You're a parent reading this for your child: the rest of this page is written so you can judge it too.
It is not for you if you want a part-time or weekend course. This is a full-time year.
What you'll learn
The program runs six modules. They follow the order the studio itself uses to train a new animator.
- 013D Foundations — living inside Maya and Blender: scenes, rigs, keyframes, and the graph editor that rules them all.
- 02Body Mechanics — walks, runs, jumps, lifts. Weight and balance studied until a character obeys physics.
- 03Acting & Dialogue — pantomime and lip-sync shots: thought, emotion and subtext performed through a character.
- 04Creatures & Quadrupeds — cycles and behaviour for animals, the shots most junior reels are missing.
- 05Camera & Layout — framing, blocking and lensing a sequence so the animation is seen the way it deserves.
- 06Production Term — live studio briefs, with the same review process the studio's own shots go through.
How the year runs
Months 1–3 — Foundations. Everyone starts from zero. You learn the software, the twelve principles of animation, and how to read reference. By the end of month 3 you have a bouncing ball, a walk cycle, and a weight-lift shot you would not be embarrassed to show.
Months 4–9 — Specialisation. Weekly briefs, weekly reviews, escalating difficulty. Body mechanics, then acting and dialogue, then creatures. Your work is reviewed the way a shot is reviewed in production: what's wrong, why, fix it by Friday.
Months 10–12 — Studio Floor. You animate on real briefs from the studio's productions — the shows the mentors are working on that week — to the studio's deadlines. What you make here is your showreel.
Mentors who ship
Your mentors are working animators, not full-time teachers. When the studio is in production, the mentors are in production too, which is the point: the notes you get on Tuesday are the same notes they got on Monday.
Careers after the course
Graduates are prepared for these roles: 3D Animator, Character Animator, Layout Artist, Previs Artist. Studios hire on the showreel, not the certificate, which is why the last three months of this program are spent making one.
We don't publish placement percentages. We'd rather show you the reels of students who finished, and let you speak to them. Ask on your studio visit.
Fees and intake
Installment plans are available; ask for the schedule when you visit.
Seats are limited because the program runs inside a working studio and each student needs a seat on the floor.
Studying in Haldwani
Monal Academy is at Karan Tower, Gas Godam Road, in central Haldwani — about 10 minutes from Kathgodam railway station and on the main road in from Rudrapur and Nainital. Students commute daily from Kathgodam, Lalkuan, Bhimtal and Rudrapur; students from Almora, Pithoragarh and further up the hills usually take a PG nearby. Ask us for the current list of PGs students use.
How admissions work
- 01Say hello. Message us on WhatsApp, call, or email with the program you're interested in.
- 02Visit the studio. Walk the floor, meet the mentors, see the shots in progress. A video call works if you can't travel.
- 03Reserve your seat. Enrol to secure your place in the next intake.
No entrance test, no portfolio. We're looking for people who will show up every day for a year.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know drawing?
No. 3D animation is about movement and performance, not draftsmanship. Drawing helps with posing, and we teach what you need.
Maya or Blender — which one gets me a job?
Both are taught. Maya is what most Indian studios run; Blender is what many smaller studios and YouTube-first teams use. You leave comfortable in both.
Is a one-year certificate enough, or do I need a degree?
Animation studios hire on the showreel. A degree doesn't hurt, but a reel with production-standard shots gets interviews. If you're mid-degree, you can do this program after graduating.
What's the difference between this and a franchise institute?
Franchise institutes teach from a syllabus; here the syllabus is whatever the studio is producing this year. You learn on live shots, from the people animating them.
Can I do this while working?
No. It's full-time, on campus, five days a week.
I'm from Pithoragarh / Almora / Bageshwar. Where do I stay?
Most students from the hills take a PG in Haldwani. We keep a list; ask when you visit.
What do I make by the end?
A showreel with body mechanics, acting, creature and layout shots, plus production shots from the Studio Floor term — reviewed to the same standard as the studio's own work.
